Thunderbolt 4 has just begun to be widely used in the consumer field, but the people behind this technology are already looking forward to the next generation of technology.
This week, executives from Intel inadvertently revealed what Thunderbolt might look like next gen.
Intel high management Gregory Bryant’s post was based on his visit to the Intel Israel Research Center to take a photo and inadvertently appeared a “USB 80G PHY” related message in the background image. The figure also mentions that the new standard continues to use the USB-C interface, uses PAM-3 modulation technology, and the test chip is TSMC 6nm.

It is believed that Thunderbolt 5 will be able to provide high refresh rate from 4K to 8K image transmission, other than twice bandwidth (80Gbps) as Thunderbolt 4 (max 40Gbps) and at the same time, it is compatible with Thunderbolt 4 and 3.
It is still unknown when Intel will officially release news about Thunderbolt 5 because Thunderbolt 4 has only been launched for about a year (launched in 2020), and Apple, which has always supported Thunderbolt, launched its computer with its own M1 chip last year. It still uses the Thunderbolt/USB 4 interface which is actually Thunderbolt 3.
