According to HT Tech, Apple has begun to develop the iPhone 15 series, and the new products will debut in the second half of 2023 or 2024.
Compared with the iPhone 14 series, the biggest change of the iPhone 15 is to drop the Lightning interface and use the USB-C interface instead.
Not long ago, Tianfeng International analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said that the future iPhone will use the USB-C interface, which will probably be officially adopted on the iPhone 15 series. Subsequently, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman revealed that Apple is already testing related new machines.
The EU has reached an interim agreement on the unified charging port. In the future, all electronic products sold in Europe must have a USB-C charging port. This means that it is only a matter of time before the iPhone uses a USB-C port. We don’t think Apple would rather lose the entire European market and would have to stick to the proprietary interface of more than a decade ago.
But it’s also a tricky endeavor for Apple, because if dropping the lightning, Apple may worry about:
- Apple will lose a lot of authorization fees brought by authorized MFi manufacturers, which is a very considerable margin;
- It will cause Apple fans to lower their recognition because lightning has always been one of the important points to distinguish Apple from other Android phones;
- It will cause a lot of equipment waste for Apple users, and many idle chargers and charging cables will not be used, and Apple fans will be extremely angry;
- It will cause a lot of waste of electronic waste, and the idle electronic equipment related to lightning will be discarded, polluting the earth and environment.
Anyway, every time when Apple going to launch a new product, there are many predictions in the market, maybe iPhone 15 comes with portless, right, who knows?
Everything is unknown until Apple announces itself.
